Best of 2011: Jhene Aiko – Sailing Soul(s)

Jhene Aiko not only made her way into my prestigious top five women list, but also put out one of my favourite non hip-hop albums of the year. She was on my radar after lending a hook to Kendrick Lamar on his Overly Dedicated project, but really got the attention of the masses when she included Drake and Kanye West on the tracklist for her debut album.

Aiko’s soft, sultry vocals, as well as Sailing Soul(s) delicate production are refreshing in an age where the once sacred waters of RnB have been tainted by copycat club beats and forgettable hooks. It’s tagged up as an album but you can stream and download for free via the link below.
